In the early 1990’s, a group of people came together with the intention of setting up a sort of savings club for members of the Stranraer community. After some hard work, Stranraer Savings Club started operating in 1995, whereupon its membership grew exponentially.
After contacting Solway Community Business, Stranraer Savings Club received enough funding to expand and in 1999 changed its name to Stranraer Credit Union Ltd. after becoming authorised by the then Financial Services Authority, offering its members a secure and easy way of saving and receiving affordable loans.
In August 2001, Stranraer Credit Union then moved to its current premises in Hanover Square.
